The club has its own library of over 2000 book titles, a large collection of Star Trek Videos (VHS) and a range of other media.

The books range from the very well-known such as Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke to the lesser known - and anything in between. Back issues of our club fanzine Probe, as well as various international fanzines, are also available.

It has been said that people join SFFSA because of the library and stay because of the great people and vibe. Come put this to the test!

    REVIEW COPIES & DONATIONS

Publishing houses are welcome to send us copies of new titles for us to review in our fanzine Probe. We gratefully accept all quality donations (books based on computer games and the like will be tossed aside with great vigour), despite our lack of shelf space. Simone always needs new reading material.

    PERSONAL COLLECTIONS

Various members of SFFSA have extensive personal collections, which they may lend out with discretion to trustworthy persons.

In keeping with the wishes of the late Liz Simmonds, her lifetime collection of Science Fiction books (about 1100 volumes) is being made available to SFFSA members for borrowing, and will be designated as the Liz Simmonds Memorial Library.

This is about half the size of the large SFFSA Library, but it only partly overlaps, and there are many historic volumes as well as newer ones. In order to keep the collection together, it will continue to be shelved in her house at 33 East Street, East Town, Jo’burg (near Northcliff Corner).

So you will need to drop in, as some members already do, in order to browse and borrow books. A simple honour-based issuing system has been put in place: we have stamped every book with the name of the library, and will substitute each borrowed volume by a placeholder card bearing the borrower’s details.
Maximum per borrower, 5 books at a time.
